David Kagan is a multimedia artist whose work explores identity, biography, and popular culture iconography. Through film, sculpture, painting, and performance he seeks to make connections between personal and collective stories and to explore the narrative possibilities of environments.
A filmic collaboration with composer Gerald Busby (Robert Altman’s Three Women, Paul Taylor’s Runes), Regarded As A Hole centers around a poetic Wikipedia mash-up of metaphysics, sexuality, and memory. The visuals explore the interior spaces of Busby’s home, the iconic Chelsea Hotel. Kagan and Busby act as shades haunting its corridors.
